Critique: I think this photo is successful because it has so many pleasing patterns that draw your eye. It is a landscape photo so it gives you the feeling of openness in the abandoned dessert.

The patterns that were made naturally by earth are beautiful and successfully captured. They are also more cleary seen because the photo was edited to be in black and white.
