The School of Athens
The School of Athens
Description: This painting is of people from past roman times, as you can tell by the clothing. The way it is painted shows a center focus on the two men in the middle which definitely draws curiosity. From my view it seems to be set in a chapel of some sort with statues and marble steps, with surrounding people. All of which are wearing more muddy toned colored clothes.
Analysis: The School of Athens is a painting that represents all the greatest mathematicians, philosophers and scientists gathered together sharing their ideas and learning from one another. These historic figures all lived at different times in history, but here they are gathered together under one roof.
Interpretation: When seeing this painting and researching it, it has a lot of symbolism and greatness from renowned mathematicians, philosophers and scientists. There are many specific historic people that made quite a mark in history and industrialization of our new world. Many of which lived at very different times of history, but in this painting it is showing all these historic figures under one roof sharing their monumental ideas. This I believe is helping show the greatness of our past historic figures all together.
Judgement: I think the symbolism behind this painting is very interesting and wanting to research more of all the specific historical figures that were chosen to be incorporated into the painting. Beside that the colors and spacing chosen I think were important as well, the clothes show that it has past history and the colors chosen pop out well within the chaos of so many figures. There is also a center point within the art that drags your eyes to the center which I think is a nice touch.
Description: This painting is very monochromatic and seems to have a violent setting. The figures within this painting seem to have very Roman esque figures. It seems to tell a story about death and a journey Not to mention the hardships of their Journey traveling on the ocean with a very sturdy ship.
Analysis: This painting is to represent the French naval ship the Medusa. It is to show the hardships of those who survived the Shipwreck and those who didn't. It is indeed a historical moment in history of hardships, including starvation which led to cannibalism and yhe Madness of being lost at sea.
Interpretation: I interpret this painting as during the reality of the hardships of the people who survived the Shipwreck on a raft and the amount of Courage they had as well as adrenaline 2 survive. The way the painting was done has a very monochromatic color scheme and very delicate figures even those who seem to be struggling within the painting.
Judgment: I think the delicacy of the figures add a special tone to the painting as it is a real historical moment of the horrific hardships the Medusa passengers endured.
